Burn Bans
Restrictions on outdoor burning activities or "burn bans" can be ordered by any local fire chief for their respective jurisdiction, or may be imposed by the legislative body of a city, town or county. According to the 2014 Indiana Fire Code, Section 307.1.1, "The fire chief is authorized to require open burning be immediately discontinued if such open burning constitutes a hazardous condition." Burn Bans are reported to the Clark County Emergency Management Agency so the status of the burn ban can be placed on the Statewide Burn Ban Status Map .
Clark County Solid Waste Management District/Clark County Recycling District
The Clark County Recycling District (CCRD) manages residential curbside and drop-off recycling programs, as well as recycling for household hazardous waste, scrap metal, and electronics. CCRD’s goal is to reduce landfill waste and promote a cleaner environment for Clark County. Materials collected through curbside and drop-off programs are processed by Smurfit Westrock and sent to vetted manufacturers to be made into new products.
Funding & Drop-Off Locations
Established by Clark County Ordinance #1993-OR-34 in June 1993, the mandatory recycling program applies to residents within Sellersburg, Jeffersonville, and Clarksville. All households in these city limits must pay a yearly recycling fee of $34.00, regardless of participation. This fee is included in the property tax statement.
For residents in unincorporated areas of Clark County, a yearly fee of $17.00 allows access to drop-off recycling at the following locations:
- Henryville: 102 S. Furgeson St.
- New Washington: 411 S. Poplar St.
- Starlight: St. Johns/Rake Rd.
- Borden: 14304 Hwy. 60
- Memphis: Tri-Township Fire & Rescue Station 2, 1000 Main St.
